Textured Echoes

Textured Echoes is an interactive book that breaks down the sensory experience of potato chips. The vellum cover cracks with use, mimicking a chip bag’s texture. Inside, Sculpey clay chips, textured paper, a chip color palette, and paper with grease stains and glued salt reflect the chip experience. The project invites readers to slow down and appreciate the deeper qualities of chips, encouraging mindfulness and presence beyond instant gratification.

Textured Echoes - The final book aims to draw further away from an actual bag of chips by allowing the shapes to “freefall” down to the bottom of the bag and only applying 3 specific color gradients (chip bag, chips, and the brand logo).

Prototypes

Prototype 1 - Using paper and cardboard, I created a puzzle piece representing the crumbs of a chip. I took the shiny interior of a chip bag and crumpled it to show the packaging. I also glued salt to paper, pressed paper onto chips to showcase the grease, and created color palettes for both the chip bag and the chips.
Prototype 2 - I refined my ideas by using sculpey clay, printed images, and salt to model the chips. I used vellum to print a “wireframe” of the chip bag.
